NEWS- Police in Nyamarunda Sub-County in Kibaale District are holding two suspects over their alleged involvement in the gruesome murder of a 55-year-old elderly woman, Nyirabanzi Anasitanzia of the same area.
The suspects who are currently detained at Nyamarunda Police Post have been identified as Robert Tumuramye 23 and Kasuhe Zadodi 22 all residents of Kabalira village in Nyamarunda Sub-County, Kibaale district.
It is alleged that last night at around 9 pm the suspects attacked and brutally murdered Anasitanzia using an axe, Hoe and thereafter poured boiled water on to the body.
Stephen Semasaka, the chairperson of Kabalira village suspects that the killers could have clobbered Anastanzia on the head with an axe leaving her in critical condition but later Samaritans rushed her to St Ambrose charity health center IV Kagadi where she breathed her last.
Shocked residents said that Anasitanzia who was living alone in the house had no grudge against anyone but they suspect that the killers could have targeted to rob money since the deceased has been a money lender in the area.
Other sources said that Anasitanzia had lent money worth 350,000shs to one of the suspects Robert Tumuryamwe in 2022 with an agreement to give her 3,000 bricks in turn.
Omukwenda Munyaneza the Head of Bugangaizi Faith of Unity Branch in Kakumiro who was also at the scene castigated the act expressing the need for people to repent and work hard.
Relatedly, One person was hacked to death and two others critically injured in Kyangwari Sub-County Kikuube district on Monday night at around 11 p.m..
The deceased has been identified as Christopher Mababazi 37 while the injured are Francis Byamukama 48 with another only identified as Kasangaki. They are all residents of Kinyamahwa village in Kyangwali sub-county.
Information obtained by our reporter reveals that on Monday night, the trio while drinking in a local bar were attacked by John Brown, a resident of the same area.
He was armed with a panga and indiscriminately started hacking people in the bar for unknown reasons.
In the process, Mbabazi was hacked on the head, face and neck and died on the way as he was being rushed to Kyangwali health center III while Byamukama and Kasangaki sustained deep injuries to their heads, faces and necks.
They were rushed for treatment at Kyangwali health center III where they are currently admitted.
Lawrence Maani, the area LCI Chairperson said, it is not clear why Brown raided the bar and started hacking people adding that after the incident, the suspect fled the village to an unknown destination.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson confirmed the incident and said that investigations have been initiated to ensure that the suspect is arrested.
He said, the deceased’s body was picked by the police who conveyed it to the Kikuube health center IV for postmortem examination, and was later handed over to the relatives for burial.
