NEWS– The Uganda People’s Defence Force helicopter has today afternoon crashed in Nyamisingiri village in Kichwamba Sub County in Kabalore District near Fort Portal Tourism City.
Preliminary information indicates that the helicopter is suspected to have come from Muhote Barracks near the Mountain of the Moon University where as Airbase is located Kabalore District.
According to eyewitnesses, the helicopter crashed onto the house of a yet to be identified resident, resulting in the tragic death of three family members and the pilot and the names of the deceased individuals have not been released pending notification of their families.
The UPDF Airforce spokesperson, Major Naboth Mugisha told reporters that the incident is purely accidental caused by unknown circumstances and details of the crash will be availed later and emergency response teams are currently at the scene with local authorities to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to affected residents.
The UPDF has not issued a formal response regarding the helicopter crash and the cause of the incident remains unclear, and investigations are expected to be launched to determine the factors leading to the crash.
