NEWS- The Rukungiri District Woman Member of Parliament Hon Midius Natukunda Kaharata has been rushed to hospital for medical attention after sustaining injuries in a road accident on Thursday afternoon.
Information obtained by this Online Publication indicates that the legislator only survived by God’s grace on her way from Kampala when a bus belonging to Freedom Bus Company Limited registration number UBB648M hit her vehicle from behind.
The scary accident happened at Kayabwe when the legislator who was with her family members in her motorvehicle registration number UBK 398J headed for Rukungiri for holidays.
An eyewitness told this reporter that the accident happened as the bus driver who was headed for Ibanda tried to overtake the legislator and in the process ended up hitting her from behind.
After the news hit the social media, a number of people have come out to wish the legislator a quick recovery on various platforms.
“Hon Midius Natukunda Kaharata, Rukungiri Woman MP sorry, God indeed protected you and other occupants. Our prayers are with you” posted a friend on a social media platform.
It should be remembered that 33 road users died in road accidents between December 25, 2023 and December 26, 2023 according to the Police Traffic Report.
SP Michael Kananura, the Directorate Spokesperson, told the media in Kampala on Wednesday that, although the country registered fewer cases this year, 33 people died while 156 sustained serious injuries.
“Among the fatalities registered, pedestrians and riders constituted 85% of which most of these were in upcountry, otherwise highways were peaceful,” said Kananura.
In Kapchorwa, for example, 5 people died in a single fatal crash, which occurred on Tuesday at 04:00 pm at Towei Corner Kapsindi along Kapchorwa – Mbale Road, involving a motor vehicle reg. No UBD 074J Prado Land Cruiser. It claimed the lives of 5 people, who included four children and their mother, and injured four others including the driver, all occupants in the same vehicle.
