Wreckage of the UPDF Chopper in Ntoroko aircraft accident

NEWS– The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Spokesman Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has acknowledged the Helicopter Gunship crash in the area of Karugutu – Ntoroko District.

According to a press statement issued on Tuesday January 2nd 2024 signed by Brig Gen Kulayigye, the crew whose identity were not revealed and a civilian on whose house the chopper crashed were killed.

Brig Gen Kulayigye has disclosed that technical experts shall investigate the accident and identify of the crew shall be made known to the general public after informing the next of kin.

The UPDF Spokesman said that, the Army commiserate with the families of the victims at this difficult moment saying that the crew died as Heroes as they participated in the struggle to pacify the western frontiers of the dreadful Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels.

Earlier in the afternoon, it was reported that the Helicopter crashed in Nyamisingiri village in Kichwamba Sub County in Kabalore District near Fort Portal Tourism City and preliminary information indicates that the helicopter is suspected to have come from Muhote Barracks near the Mountain of the Moon University where as Airbase is located Kabalore District.

The UPDF Airforce spokesperson, Major Naboth Mugisha told reporters that the incident is purely accidental caused by unknown circumstances and details of the crash will be availed later and emergency response teams are currently at the scene with local authorities to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to affected residents.
