NEWS- Hon. Andrew Baryayanga Aja, former Kabale Municipality legislator has announced his candidacy for the NRM Party Chairmanship in Kabale District, positioning himself as unopposed candidate.

Aja made this declaration during a fundraising ceremony of Kirigime C.O.U parish towards paying the loan they incurred buying the residential house for the parish priest of Kirigime C.O.U and Celebrating 6 years of the Church’s existence in Kabale Municipality.

Baryayanga Aja expressed concerns about the current state of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Kabale district, citing internal divisions and weak leadership that have eroded the party’s dominant position.

He aims at reviving NRM and ensure all constituencies in Kabale Municipality, Ndorwa West, and Ndorwa East have NRM MPs in Parliament.

His roots in NRM stem deep, with his late father, Stephen Baryayanga, being a significant figure in the Uganda Patriotic Movement (UPM), which later evolved into the NRM under President Yoweri Museveni.

Influential mobilizers like Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda and Hon. Amama Mbabazi also played a significant role in UPM’s growth in Kigezi.

Aja’s challenge is directed at Hon.  David Bahati, who has held the NRM chairmanship in Kabale for two terms. This contest is expected to be highly competitive, given both men’s popularity and resources.

Aja aims to bring back NRM’s lost glory, unlike the current situation where Bahati is threatening those who intend to contest on his post as MP.
