KAMPALA– The Minister of Local Government Hon Raphael Magyezi has once again asked Parliament to extend the office of the LC1 and LC 2 Executive Committees for another 6 months.
According to Uganda Gazette dated 2nd July 2024, Minister Magyezi issued a supplementary statutory instrument number 1439 of 2024 that extends the term of office of administrative unit councils I and II under the Local Government Act CAP 138.
It’s now official that under regulation 11A of the Local Government Councils Regulations, the term of office of administrative councils which was expected to expire today July 3rd 2024, has been extended for a period not exceeding 180 days from tomorrow July 4th 2024.
The extension for the administrative units to remain in office which is the second time, is premised on condition that the government has no funds to organise the Elections for the new office bearers which means that the current LC 1 and 2 Executives will remain in office for the next 6 months.
