KAMPALA- Anti-Corruption Court Judge Jane Okuo Kajuga has halts another corruption trial against Former Trade Ministry PS Geraldine Ssali and MPs; Michael Mawanda, Wamakuyu Mudimi and Akamba Paul pending a decision from the Constitutional Court regarding the alleged violated rights of Paul Akamba by state agents / security.
Akamba complains that his fundamental human rights were violated on 14th/June/2024 when he was re- arrested by unknown gun -men outside the Anti-Corruption Court premises immediately after being granted bail.
That he was assaulted and held incommunicado in a ungazatted place before being taken to Kireka police where he was again held for seven days; an action that he contends is sufficient to declare his corruption trial as a nullity.
Geraldine Ssali and the three MPs are jointly alongside City Lawyer Julius Kirya Taitankoko and Leonard Kavundira for alleged Diversion of Public Resources and conspiracy to defraud Government of over 3.4bn shillings that was meant to compensate NRA war victims loss between 2019 and 2023; which offence they denied and are all out on bail.
Early this month the Corruption trial of MPs; Yusuf Mutembule, Paul Akamba and Cissy Namujju was also halted by Justice Lawrence Gidudu on grounds of a reference to the Constitutional Court to determine whether the rights of a victim of a crime; is not prejudiced when he is released because of violation of his rights.
