KASESE- Some institutions of learning in Nyakabingo sub – county, Busongora County South in Kasese district are grappling with inadequate latrine facilities for use by both learners and teachers.

Nyakabingo has five government grant-aided primary schools that are spread across five parishes that make up the lower local government.

The institutions include Bishop Egidio, St. Peter’s Kibalya, Bukumbia, Nyakabingo and Kibalya primary schools.

For the case of Bishop Egidio Primary school that is located in Kyambogho parish, the learners and teachers share temporary latrine stances that were constructed by the parents.

According to the school’s Head teacher, Mr. Henry Bwambale Kyondo, an enrolment of 648 learners and 05 teachers compete for latrine facilities with the business community at the nearby trading center.

Mr. Kessy Musubaho, the Local Council I Chairperson for Kyambogho village says they are concerned about the effects of poor sanitation in those schools, appealing to the district leadership to devise means of constructing latrine stances at the said schools.

Mr. Modesto Mowa, one of the concerned residents in the area and a parent condemned the district education inspectorate for allegedly not reaching out to schools to identify the challenges that they could be going through.
