NEWS- Kampala Capital City Authority Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has launched the Valuation Court Sessions for Makindye Division at the Division offices.
While launching the commencement of the court sessions, the Lord Mayor stated that he undertook deliberate steps in sensitization and ensuring the visibility of the court amidst opposition, because it is the only way City residents would know about the functions of the court and seek for equity.
Lord Mayor said that the reason for him introduction the banded tax system in respect to the Property rate tax was to ensure fairness in the tax, adding that the 2005 Ratings Act needs to be further reviewed.
Lukwago called on City leaders to demand for the creation of Property tax fund as required by the law for effective utilization of revenues generated.
The Valuation Court chaired by Lawyer Mulindwa Muyizi was established to handle disputes between the Authority and Property Owners in respect to Property rate tax and is set to entertain about 1200 objectors from Makindye Division.
Present at the launch were Area Members of Parliament, KCCA and Urban Councillors, members of Valuation Court, technical staff and village local council Chairpersons among others.
