NEWS- Locals from Kaharo sub-county, Kabale District, have expressed concern over the escalating criminality in the area, which they attribute to the police’s alleged release of suspects before they even reach their homes.

Speaking during a piggery distribution event in Nyakasharara and Burambira parishes, Kaharo sub-county, the locals led by John Kabagambe, chairperson of Omukisamba Village, Burambira Parish, lamented that the high level of criminality is undermining community development projects.

The pigs, donated by Hon. Ndamira, were intended to support local farmers but have instead become a target for theft.

Kabagambe noted that the most commonly stolen items are pigs, goats, rabbits, hens, and beans, especially during this harvesting season.

He attributed this to unemployed youth who prefer not to work and instead engage in criminal activities.

The Kaharo sub-county LC3 Chairperson, Edmandi Tumwesigye, expressed concern about the impact of criminality on the Parish Development Model (PDM) progress.

He revealed that beneficiaries who had purchased cattle through the program had their animals stolen.

Tumwesigye also mentioned two recent suspects who were arrested for assault but later released, forcing residents to sleep with their animals in their homes, posing a threat to their lives.

The Kabale District Woman MP urged the community to establish strong bylaws to curb criminality and pledged to address the issue with the relevant authorities to find a solution.”
