NEWS– The Police in Kanungu District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 26 year old man identified as Brian Tumwesigyire a resident of Murehe “B”village in Kakyinga Parish in Bugongi Sub-county.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told journalists that it is alleged that the deceased was cut in the head with a panga by one Martin Kamugisha a resident of the same address, who alleged that he did so out of provocation after the deceased together with others hit him with a stone and he bled furiously and is currently admitted at Kambuga hospital, under police guard.
Maate said that preliminary investigation indicat that Kamugisha was attacked on Friday evening while on his way back home by unknown assailants who stoned him from the back side and as he turned to see what was happening, he was stoned on the right side of the nose and bled furiously and he decided to run after them and that’s how he cut the deceased in the head with a deep cut.
It is alleged that the two agreed to treat themselves since they all had injuries inflicted on them by each other, but moments later Kamugisha went and reported a case of assault at Bugongi Police Post, while Tumwesigyire went home and slept without informing his parents.
Maate said that it was on the morning of yesterday Saturday July 6th 2024, when Tumwesigyire parents checked on him from his room and rushed him to Kambuga hospital where he died before getting treated.
The Police was notified accordingly about his death and a postmortem examination was done and the suspect arrested from the same hospital where he is receiving treatment from under Police guard as investigation continue and the case was registered at Kanungu District Central Police Station under reference number CRB/438/2024 to help in investigation.
