
NEWS- Kanungu District Chairperson, Eng Sam Arinaitwe Kajojo has praised the collaboration between district leadership and technical staff in their efforts to ensure that the residents receive the social services they deserve.
Chairman Arinaitwe Kajojo made the remarks while presiding over the official groundbreaking for the construction of the Mafuga – Nyamasiizi road which is a major project expected to improve transport, trade and access to essential services in Kanungu District and neighbouring areas.
Eng Arinaitwe Kajojo assured the residents that the construction of Mafuga – Nyamasiizi road is just one of many infrastructure projects which are underway in the district and once completed they will go a long way in the improvement of the economic livelihoods and welfare of the residents.
He also pledged continued lobbying for services such as roads, gravity-flow water schemes, expansion of electricity coverage and upgrade of Secondary School facilities and promised installation of additional culverts and improvement of other road networks in Rutenga Sub-county and neighboring areas in Rutenga Town Council.
The event was held at Rutenga Sub-county, where Kanungu District Superintendent of Works, Eng Silange January called on local residents to take responsibility for preserving government-constructed roads.
He revealed that the 6 km stretch from Mafuga to the border with Rubanda will be fully graded with high class murram and equipped with of 600mm and 900mm culverts especially in prone flooding areas.
According to Eng Silange, the civil construction works will involve more than 115 trips of murram, and several machines which include graders, bulldozers, excavators, micro rollers, wheel loaders, and self-loaders are already on site to ensure timely completion.
While speaking at the same function Kanungu Chief Administrative Officer, Awuye Abudalah encouraged residents to and maximize use of the road by increasing agricultural production and transport their produce to bigger markets, he however advised Boda boda riders to observe safety and reduce speed in order to avoid accidents on the new road.
Local leaders in the area expressed their appreciation for the development and Rutenga Sub-county LC 3 Chairperson, Joab Asimiire noted that the road will significantly reduce transportation costs and ease the delivery of goods and services to towns like Kabale Rubanda and Kanungu.
The Area LC 1 Chairperson for Mafuga Forest Reserve Cell where the road begins, Edmund Muhangi commended the government for responding to the area’s long-standing plea for better infrastructure, while a Boda boda rider Akampa Valentino welcomed the project, saying it will make their transportation easier and more affordable for both passengers and transporters.

The Kanungu Assistant Resident District Commissioner (ARDC), Emmy Magezi, emphasized the importance of collaborative leadership structures in implementing government programs and stated that successful service delivery involves cooperation from local councils, district authorities and the central government.
RDC Magezi thanked the Minister for ICT and National Guidance Hon Dr Chris Baryomunsi who is also Kinkizi East Member of Parliament who played a critical role in bringing government services closer to the people saying that the launch of construction of Mafuga–Nyamasiizi road is a significant step in transforming rural infrastructure in Kanungu District.
