KAMPALA– In a significant legal development, the Ugandan judiciary has cleared the path for Mujuni Mpitsi, a prominent political figure, to contest in the 2026 parliamentary elections. This decision comes after a clarification regarding a previous court order that had mistakenly hinted on disqualifying him from holding public office for ten years.

On May 5, 2025, a letter was sent by Mpitsi’s legal team, JByamukama Advocates, seeking clarification on the orders and sentence terms in the case: HCT-00-ACD-SC 0013-2020 – Uganda Vs. Enid Kamahoro Mujuni Mpitsi & Others. The judiciary responded, admitting that the order issued on January 7, 2025, was flawed due to a typographical error.
The judiciary’s letter, which has since been accessed by the media, stated that the disqualification mentioned in paragraph four of the order was not part of the official court ruling. Specifically, the ban on Mpitsi holding a public office for ten years under section 46 of the Anti-Corruption Act was declared void. This clarification opens the door for Mpitsi to pursue his political ambitions without the hindrance of this erroneous ruling.
In light of this clarification, a certified copy of the release order and plea bargain agreement for Mujuni Mpitsi was shared with relevant parties, reinforcing his eligibility to participate in the upcoming elections.
Mr. Frank Rukundo and Mr. Moses Muhumuza had filed a petition challenging his eligibility through their legal representatives from Mwesigwa Rukutana & Co. Advocates.
With the judicial error rectified, Mujuni Mpitsi is now in a position to advance his campaign for the Rubabo Constituency seat. His supporters are optimistic about his prospects, believing that his prior experience and connections will provide him with a competitive edge in the primaries.
