The Police in Kanungu District have registered the death of a 15 year old boy identified asClinton Birungi , a pupil at Kyentija Prmary school, which was caused by a stray elephant, which occurred at Kameme cellvin Kibimbiri Parish in Kihihi Sub-county.
It is alleged that today the mother elephant with it’s calf broke out of Queen Elizabeth National Park into the community and found the family of Kiiza Robert and destroyed the grass thatched house while they were inside sleeping.
Kigezi Region Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the incident and said that while others remained calm, the late Birungi Clinton jumped from the demolished house and attempt to run away and it upon this background that the elephant ran after him and hit him to death.
Maate said that the Police at Kihihi Police Station were informed, the scene was visited and documented and the body was taken to Kihihi Health Centre IV postmortem examination.
It’s further alleged that, the elephant had stayed in the community for a week and after the incident, the Uganda Wildlife Authority wardens drove back to the park.
