NEWS- Kasese District leaders report a positive Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon after all happening places run out of space because of a good turn up of tourists.

The Kasese District Vice Chairperson has indicated that the Local Government is more than ready to host the third edition of the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon slated for tomorrow.

Mr. Ham Natuhwera sounded the remarks during the “Keep Kasese Clean Campaign” that saw several groups of people and companies comes together to clean the streets of Kasese town.

According to Natuhwera, the event is a blessing to the district because it is meant to transform Kasese into a tourism destination that is recognized worldwide.

Natuhwera, who also doubles as the Kasese District Secretary for Production, Marketing and Natural Resources, stressed that he was hopeful that the event will not leave the people of Kasese the same economically because the participants in the marathon will need services.

Among the participants was Hon. Enid Kabugho, the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu Deputy Minister in-charge of Tourism, Environment and Disaster Mitigation who told the press that the clean exercise would help to attract more tourists to the district.

She used the same platform to reveal that the Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu was in the process of discovering more cultural sites to act as tourist attractions.

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has assured all participants in the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon of safety and security.

The marathon, known for its scenic route and cultural immersion, will take place on Saturday August 24 in Kasese district, where runners will cover distances of 42 kilometers, 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers and 5 kilometers.

This year’s event is particularly special because it is hosting participants from Uganda and 32 other countries.

In a statement today, the UPDF Spokesperson, Brig. Felix Kulayigye, assured all participants of safety, saying that the army will be stationed throughout the event. Kasese’s stunning landscapes and the majestic Rwenzori Mountains provide a unique setting for the marathon.

The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon celebrates resilience, determination, and unity among participants from diverse backgrounds. Since its inception in 2022, the event has promoted health, supported athletes and raised environmental awareness.

Addressing a press conference in Kasese town, the State Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga Kiime, revealed that other security agencies have joined with the UPDF to guarantee security at all border points so that the visitors peaceful enjoy the beauty of Kasese.

He implored the people of Kasese to fully support the event through turning up and cheering the runners.
