NEWS– The Uganda Police Force Spokesman Fred Enanga has confirmed that the two suspected Mai Mai rebels who strayed into Uganda from Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo were arrested and handed over to the UPDF for further management.

Enanga confirmed that the two suspected armed Mai Mai rebels were arrested in Kihunde village, Kyeshero Central Parish in Kyeshero Sub county due to heightened security vigilance and community sensitisation.

Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner Gad Ahimbisibwe Rugaju who oversees the area as the Chairman of the Security Committee said that preliminary investigations indicate that the captured men who were armed with an AK 47 rifle were running away from the M23 rebels and lost their directions in Congo and ended up on Uganda side.

The Mai Mai rebels in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have been fighting alongside the Government Forces to eliminate the M23 forces who are now gaining ground in North Kivu in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

When contacted, the Deputy UPDF Spokesman Col Deo Akiiki said that an official statement about the matter will be released in the due course as the joint security agencies are still investigating the case.
