WAKISO- The ability  to see is one of the unique gifts from the creator that can not be taken for granted. This is  simply because it stimulates  almost  more than 50 percent of our brain,  how we  think and look at situations.

This is one of the pertinent reasons, Lapaire Uganda created awareness among students at  Buddo Senior  Secondary  School in celebration of the World Sight Day  on October 10.

The commemoration of the day aptly run under the theme ”  Love your eyes Kids” , which was evident at the host school in Wakiso.

Among the  students, poor eye sight  will definitely have an impact on the performance in academics, lower self  esteem,  affect their social interactions and gravely disrupt the way they learn, play,  thrive and so many others.

While Speaking to Students, Jackline  Baboneraawo , Optometrist, Lapaire Uganda said that her poor eye sight while in school affected her academics  and revealed that  most of the people do not take  cases seriously  unless they cause pain and that is when they visit specialists.” Glasses are for enhancing eye sight and by the time some one  puts them on, they  are looking at improving their vision majorly and this  will transfer to better academics , proper reading , self esteem and confidence building while in their circles” . Baboneraawo added 

She also noted that most of the  issues that children are experiencing is allergies which result into either being short sighted or long sighted but all the can be corrected with proper guidance from the specialist.

Oliver Mwanko, Communications and Public Relations Officer, Lapaire stressed that  eye sight is a key pillar in  learning and thriving in the school set up and he gave them some of the tips to enhance their sight  such as good diet with plenty of fruits and also giving them selves time to relax and keep away from gadgets most times when necessary because the addictive.

Mwanko emphasized that  children below the ages of 12 years and others  should at least take about 2 hours in an open environment to strengthen and stimulate the eye sight since most of them are indoors and are always on TVs and using appliances.

He explained that having an eye test is not for those with glasses but for every one so that they can know their status.

Mulindwa Leon, Student  thanked and appreciated the Lapaire team for chosing their school among many and giving them knowledge regarding eye care which very important for them.

However, these are some of the signs that indicate  that one may have challenges with their sight which include; trouble reading, tilting of their heads, frequent blinking, rubbing of the eyes, losing interest, difficulty in distinguishing colors and others.

Further more, as a  community driven brand, Lapaire has conducted  eye workshops and trainings, free eye testing,digital awareness campaigns and also giving back to the customers with goodies and participating in social activities.

Additionally in regards to the figures  from the World Health Organization( WHO) it is expected that over 450 Million people will be  suffering from short sightedness by 2050  which will duly majorly due to gadgets.
