Kigezi Region Police PRO ASP Elly Maate

Unexplained murder cases have rocked Kigezi Sub-region ahead of Christmas season with a record of 5 murders reported to Police in less than a week.

According to Police in Rukungiri District, they are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 56 year old woman identified as Nduhukire Benonconcila and her and husband Tumwekwase Teodoro, both residents of Kamuzinzi village in Nyabushenyi Parish in Nyarushanje Sub-county. 

Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the death of tge two and it’s alleged that they have been having domestic issues for a long time and Tumwekwase is reported to have hacked his wife to death and later took poison.

It is reported that the two spent the whole night quarreling on a high voice while the man was saying that was going to kill a person and also kills himself and yesterday evening, a family friend Ms Arituha Peace went to check on them and found their house open, the radio was playing, but when she called there was no response, and when she checked in the kitchen she found Nduhukire Bonniconcila lying in a pool of blood with a cut on the neck.

Ms Arituha made an alarm which attracted other residents to the crime scene including the area chairperson Apollo Kamagarawho reported the matter at Kiyenje Police Station who alerted Rukungiri Central Police Station visited the crime scene and upon reaching on ground, it was discovered that one Tumwekwase had taken suspected poison and was lying under the coffee tree nearby home in an unconscious state. 

He was rescued and rushed to Rwamahwa Health Center IV for treatment, unfortunately, today morning he was pronounced dead and the two bodies have been conveyed to Buyanja Health Center III Mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations continue.

Meanwhile the Police in Rukiga District are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 17 year old boy identified as Edward Mugarura a student of Kihanga Senior Secondary School, whose body was today found lying along the road in Nyakatugunda Village in Nyarurambi Parish in Rwamucucu Sub-county. 

Maate has confirmed the incident and said that the deceased was yesterday at the bar of Ampumuza Gerald at Sindi Ward in Mparo Town Council, while drinking alcohol with friends and when it reached time of leaving, some boys known by the bar attendant, followed the him on motorcycle while smoking cigarettes.

Maate explained that the ceceased body was today morning found along the road and that’s when the Police Officer in Charge of Mparo Police Station was informed and subsequently, he also informed the Rukiga Central Police Station.

The scene was visited, processed and documented and the body was examined and found with back bruises and swollen head showing signs of beatings.

When the Police introduced the canine dog from Kabale to the well preserved scene it picked the scent for approximately 2 kms up to the Bar of Ampumuza and 7 people were arrested including the bar owner and bar attendants to assist in investigations.

Maate said that the body of the deceased has been retrieved from the scene and conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for further postmortem examination as investigations continue.

Ealier in the week, three people were mysteriously reported murdered in Kigezi Sub region and according to Elly Maate investigations are still ongoing

These include Justus Tumusiime a resident Rwabashenyi village in Kabaraga in Kaharo Sub-county Kabale district, unidentified male adult, whose body was found lying along Nyakijumba – Mwanjari road in Rushaki in Ward Southern Division inKabale Municipality, and an alleged murder of a 52 year old Saturday Alex a resident of Rwenyerere village in Kihihi Town Council in Kanungu district.
