The National Environment Management Authority Executive Director Dr Akankwasah Barilega has disclosed that the organisation will soon visit Mbarara and Mbale Cities to evict people who constructed permanent structures in wetlands.
Dr Akankwasah Barilega told journalists today that NEMA in collaboration with the Department of Wetlands Management, Ministry of Water and Environment and relevant Local Governments will enforce activities in the Mbarara and Mbale cities.
He said that the exercise is in line with a Presidential directive to assist encroachers to leave wetlands peacefully in a bid restore and safeguard wetlands in Uganda.
The National Environment Management Authority Senior Public Relations officer William Lubuulwa said that the up coming restoration exercise will focus on Namatala in Mbale city and river Rwizi in Mbarara City.
