NTUNGAMO- Kakoki Primary School in Bukamba village Nyabushenyi Sub County Ntungamo district is struggling to raise atleast 20 million shillings for the construction of a 2 classroom block for the Nursery section, P1 and P.2.

Kakoki Primary School existed since 1970s and was initially an initiate of Kakoki Hiika Catholic Church but only stopped at P2 until its government takeover in 2004.

After it became government aided, the school started offering education to P6 and later to a full Primary level (P.7). It serves a great population especially from Nyabushenyi and Nyabihoko Sub Counties and has an enrollment of about 250 learners.

The semi-permanent buildings that accommodate the Nursery section, Primary one and Primary two classes at the school are on the verge of collapse putting lives of both the learners and their teachers at risk.

The dilapidated structures were constructed by the parents using mud and wattle at least 20 years ago, and are on a more course of collapse on the learners.

The old students, parents and well-wishers of the school yesterday held a Fundraising drive towards the construction of the two classroom block and a total of 6.4 million shillings was raised in both cash and pledges.

Kelly Mugisha, the chief organiser of the Fundraising, also the Nyabushenyi Sub County NRM Chairperson, commended parents, Old students of Kakoki Primary School and well-wishers for their financial support and sacrifice towards the success of yesterday’s Fundraising at the school. He asked for more support from the public and the government towards the completion of the planned construction of the 2 classroom block.

Mugisha, also asked Ugandans to embrace government programs like PDM, for their own development.

Speaking at the function held at the school grounds, the Nyabushenyi Sub County LCIII Chairperson Yoram Basheija asked parents to embrace education as the only way to have developed families and communities.

He said that developed communities are those where parents have embraced and sacrificed towards the education of their children who in turn invest in their parents, families and communities thus realizing general Community development.

He also called for cooperation between parents and teachers if learners are to achieve academically.

Robert Byamanyooha, the Kakoki Primary School Chairman PTA and the school’s Headteacher Lydia Katushabe all asked for more government support especially in infrastructure development if the school is to offer holistic education to Ugandans.

Sam Mucunguzi, the Ntungamo district LCV Chairperson who was supposed to be the Guest of Honour at the function didn’t show up but pledged 200,000 shillings.

The school needs more support in funds as they need atleast 14 more million shillings for the completion of the planned two classrooms.
