NEWS– Patriotic League of Uganda Kigezi sub region youth representative Gloria Kamusiime and other leaders have raised concerns over the poor state of Omukyongo Annex primary school, a government aided Primary School in Bucudura parish, Kashambya sub county in Rukiga district.
Kamusiime made the remarks on Friday while paying a maiden visit at the school where she found it is operating under unfavorable conditions with two dilapidated temporary classrooms, a situation that has affected learning.
She was also able to establish that the said buildings were put up by parents, the staff ceiling is also wanting in addition to being a hard to reach school.
The PLU team that visited the school, thereafter donated bars of soap to all pupils and promised to donate to them a full set of school uniforms with shoes as well as pushing for support for other services from the relevant government offices.
Rtd. Capt. Damson Kivumba and the PLU team asked people of Bucudura parish to always choose leaders wisely, capable and hardworking to ensure equitable service delivery.
Damson added that good leaders won’t segregate the electorate based religions or tribes and that they ensure that such undesirable state of Educational institutions is dealt with.
Bruno Turyasingura, the head teacher Omukyongo Annex primary school used the same opportunity to request for the Ministry of Education’s urgent intervention stressing that they are operating in a sorry state. He thanked the Patriot league of Uganda Team that maneuvered to pay them a visit and the support they gave to pupils.
Turyasingura added that the school has an enrollment of over 200 pupils with five teachers, only two being on a government payroll as the other three are supported by parents which is also not simple to sustain since most pupils drop out of school before completing primary seven.
Parents led by Johnson Bihagwa, the village Chairpersons Omukajajara village, Bucundura parish blames the area leaders for neglecting the needs of the residents, pointing out that they merely visit their area apart from election time.
Bihangwa wants the government to consider them by supporting this school so that they are benefit on the National cake.
