NEWS– The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah has underscores the significance of peace and security challenged World Leaders especially the United Nations to prioritize Youth affairs for sustainability in the development agenda.
Rt Hon Nabbanja made the remark while opening high level meeting of Africa Youth Forum on the margins of the summit of the future organized by African Union, United Nations and Uganda’s Permanent Mission in New York.
Rt Hon Nabbanja said that in July this year, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to the African Youth Charter, directing the establishment of a National Steering Committee to oversee its implementation and said that the youthful African population should be seen as a resource rather than a challenge or burden.
Prime Minister Nabbanja also said that President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni remains a steadfast advocate for initiatives that promote Africa’s economic growth and prosperity.
The Special Presidential envoy on youth affairs Daniel Obal demanded that the United Nations do more to empower the youth because they have been left behind and several presenters during the discussions made it clear that youth involvement is key for sustainable development.
The presenters included Ms Prudence Ngwenya, the Director Women, Gender and Youth Affairs at African Union commission, Ahuuna Eziakonwa UNDP Assisatnt Administrator and regional director for Africa among others.
The meeting was also attended by Uganda’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Gen Jjeje Odongo Abubakar and his Deputy Hon Okello Oryem among many other dignitaries from Uganda.
