President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni together with the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Mrs Janet Kataha Museveni have met and held a meeting with a team from Mbale Industrial Park, led by Ms Lucy Zhang.
The Meeting took place yesterday evening at Rwakitura and the team updated the President and Maama Janet Museveni on the Industrial Park’s progress and expressed their intention to establish another industrial park and the President welcomed their plan and assured them of government support.
Mbale Industrial Park is currently hosting around 75 operational factories that manufacture TVs, electronics, steel and textiles and employing over 11,000 people.
Ms with plans for 100 factories and Zhang told the President that they are planning to have more factories that will more jobs, driven by Sino-Uganda investment and government support for industrialization.
She said that recent progress includes commissioning new facilities, addressing infrastructure issues like flooding with new drainage and power substations, and fostering local supply chains for food and skills development, boosting Uganda’s manufacturing sector.
She said that expansion plans are underway to acquire more land for further growth, increased production, and increased electricity for consumption to make the park a cornerstone of Uganda’s push to become a manufacturing-driven economy.
