President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has increased funds disbursement to motor Garage operators and mechanics Saccos from Ugx 100 million to Ugx billion per Division and ordered for immediate cash out of Ugx 300 million to each Sacco in Kampala Metropolitan area.

The President who was accompanied Maama Jannet Kataha Museveni said this December 28th 2025 at Kololo Independence while addressing different clusters of players in the informal sector including Mechanics and Garage Operators.

President Museveni confirmed government plans to purchase land and establish garages for mechanics to operate with fully equiped common user facilities with modern equipment, breakdown services and wheel loaders 

The President ordered for enrollment mechanics different jurisdictions to the arrangement as part of government plans to integrate them into the socioeconomic empowerment initiatives and guided on the operationalization of the machanics Saccos and the the public garages common user facilities.

President Museveni ordered for a probe into the utilisation of funds earlier disbursed to garage operators and mechanics in Masaka and Kampala divisions 

The President noted that government has been funding the garage operators and mechanics through various schemes but he is surprised to hear of complaints from the intended beneficiaries.

The President quized some of the project executors during the meeting with motor garage operators and mechanics and dismissed claims that government ignored car garage operators and mechanics citing several earlier support initiatives to the sector and has sought accountability for those initial schemes.

He promised to initiate a separate fund to support women working in motor garages and funds to help sex workers quit that occupation and embrace descent job opportunities 

The President made the announcement  after the Minister for Kampala Metropolitan area Hon Minsa advised motor garage operators and mechanics in Kampala Metropolitan Area to ensure professionalism and utilisation of government funds to improve their sector.

While speaking at the same event, Kampala Central Mayor, Salim Uhuru explained the extent of development of Kiseka market funded by government and plans to assist motor Garage operators and mechanics improve their operations.

The  the Presidential Assistant for mobilisation has celebrated the scope of the Presidential for Garage owners and mechanics Association Yiga Wamala Kisakyamukama thanked the President for reaching out to them and be considered for special funding.
