NEWS- The Hopeful Woman MP for Kabale district Hon. Ankunda Grace Bekunda Bwesigye has urged parents to safeguard their children during this holiday season, as predators are waiting to exploit them.
Speaking at various events, including celebrations of Mary’s day at St. Phillip’s C.O.U Bugongi and the Thanksgiving ceremony of Bishop Kivengere Girls’ School, Muyebe, where the school marked its 50th anniversary, Bekunda emphasized that many children have fallen victims to rape, drug abuse, and other harmful behaviors, including theft.
She further noted that these dangers often come from those closest to the children, such as relatives, guardians, and neighbors. Bekunda stressed the importance of parents taking responsibility for protecting their children from such risks.
According to the police crime report, last year, a total of 13,144 juveniles were defiled and Out of the total victims, 12, 818 were females while 326 were males. 97 of these were defiled by parents, 90 by guardians and 211 were defiled by their teachers. Defilement victims with disabilities were 131.
During her visit on the same day to St. James Nyamyerambiko C.O.U parish at the fundraising events for Nyamyerambiko Primary School and Bugomora Primary School, all located in Nyabushabi Parish, Kyanamira Sub-County, Ndorwa East Constituency, Kabale District, Bwesigye also addressed infrastructural concerns.
She called upon government leaders to urgently address the deteriorating condition of the Nyabushabi road, particularly noting its challenges during the rainy season, emphasizing the necessity of prioritizing infrastructural improvements for the safety and accessibility of the community.
