President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Mrs Janet Museveni yesterday welcomed His Highness Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V who arrived in Uganda yesterday evening and offered his condolences for his father’s death.
President Museveni and Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini Aga Khan V will commission the Aga Khan University located in Nakawa and also lay a foundation stone to begin the construction on the Aga Khan Hospital at the same location.
The official opening of the new Aga Khan University campus in Nakawa, Kampala is a landmark development for higher education and healthcare in Uganda and East Africa and the groundbreaking of the Aga Khan University Hospital which is a 101-bed state-of-the-art facility expected to transform healthcare delivery in Uganda when completed in 2027.
According to Aga Khan University President Dr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, the two projects make is a milestone and a powerful and meaningful step forward in advancing public-private partnerships envisioned by the late His Highness the Aga Khan IV and President Museveni.
The Aga Khan Kampala University campus, located just opposite the Nakawa Business Park, features a seven-storey university centre, a nine-storey student residence, and the Nakawa Specialty Medical Centre.
The University will host 700 students, 100 faculty, and 164 resident students and the first intake for the new four-year Bachelor of Nursing Science programme starts this month and the hospital project will provide advanced specialist care, reducing the need for Ugandans to seek treatment abroad.
Meanwhile President Museveni and Mrs Janet Museveni yesterday hosted the Uganda Cranes for dinner at State House Entebbe after their commendable performance in the recent CHAN tournament.
President Museveni took the opportunity to share a brief analysis of their game and said that he together Janet had watched the Cranes playing against Algeria recently and reflected on a principle of teamwork for every Force has an Area of Responsibility.
The President noted that although the Uganda Cranes did not go for the finals they show cased Uganda’s prowess in football and pledged to support them.
