Political, religious, and cultural leaders in Kasese District have been called upon to intensify their efforts in sensitizing communities about fighting gender-based violence.
The appeal was made during the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence at the Multi-purpose Hall in Nyamwamba Division, Kasese Municipality.
The event, themed “Avoid Digital Violence,” brought together stakeholders to raise awareness about the growing concern of gender-based violence in the district.
State Minister for Gender and Culture Hon. Dr. Peace Mutuzo emphasized the critical role leaders play in promoting a culture of respect and safety, particularly given their influential platforms.
The minister sites that Leaders must use their voices to condemn violence in all its forms and ensure communities are educated on prevention and response mechanisms.
She noted that the 16 Days of Activism campaign which runs from November 25 to December 10, aiming to prevent and eliminate gender-based violence.
Hon Florence Kabugho the Kasese District Woman Member of parliament urged for increased community engagement, emphasizing digital safety and responsible online behavior.
Mr. Gerivazio Monday Bwambale Kasese District Vice chairman on behalf of the District authorities pledged support for the initiative, highlighting collaboration with NGOs and community groups to protect vulnerable populations.
2nd Deputy Prime minister of Obusinga Bwa-Rwenzururu, Mrs. Juliet Best Ferigo who represented the Kingdom, appreciated government for always supporting the cultural institution activities and pledged to work closely with government in address the gender based violence through organising community engagements about how to solve such cases in the community.
