NEWS- Rukiga District Council has approved a supplementary budget of UGX 33,809,288 for the financial year 2024/2025. The motion for the budget approval was presented to the council by Hon. Niwandinda Samuel, Secretary for Finance, Planning, and Administration on 25th September 2024.
The budget was unanimously approved by the council, which was presided over by the District Speaker Oscar Akampurira.
Niwandinda Samuel, who is also the District Vice chairperson, provided a breakdown of the funds: UGX 33,809,288 from the Ministry of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development for Extension Development Grant during budget implementation in the financial year 2024/2025.
– Production and Marketing Grant: UGX 15,308,057
– Agriculture and Development: UGX 18,501,231

During the same council sitting, Rukiga District LCV Chairperson Robert Mbabazi Kakwerere raised an alarm on high cases of early retirement among civil servants which may contribute to underdevelopment.

The Rukiga District RDC Zadoki Kamusiime threatened to deal with moneylenders in the district who are illegally arresting people without their consent. Kamusiime said that such acts are termed as Terrorism, Illegal arrests and Kidnap in Rukiga.
Kamusime emphasized proper right ways of addressing the challenge before carrying out arrests.
