Rukungiri District Local Government led by the Chairperson Geoffrey Kyomukama and the Chief Administrative Officer Hajji Swalihk Masokoyi Wasswa on Thursday officially bid farewell to the former Resident District Commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo at a function that took place at Riverside Hotel in Rukungiri Municipality.

The colorful event was attended by the Heads of Department, District Councillors, Security officials, Religious leaders, Headteachers of selected schools, business community and and members of the Media.

The District Chairman Geoffrey Kyomukama praised RDC Nsubuga Bewayo saying that he had used all his energy to ensure that the District remained peaceful and leaders worked as a team.

Kyomukama described Nsubuga Bewayo as a good listener and a person who had the ability to consult other stakeholders both seniors and junior officers at the district which helped him execute his work in Rukungiri District without bias.

On the other hand, the Chief Administrative Officer Masokoyi Wasswa described RDC Bewayo as an incorriptable officer who demanded transparency and had never influenced any undertaking during his stay in the district.

All speakers at the event spoke fondly of the former RDC methods of work which enabled him leave a lasting legacy in Rukungiri District.

In an emotional tone, Nsubuga Bewayo said that he was happy to he leaving the District when it has registered tremendous achievements in service delivery in education, health and infrastructural development and urged the incoming Resident District Commissioner to keep up the spirit.

Earlier in the afternoon Nsubuga Bewayo, handed over office to his Deputy, Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, following his transfer to Pakwach District at a brief ceremony at the RDC’s office which was witnessed by Rukungiri District Internal Security Officer Christopher Wachaya, the Deputy DISO, and two Assistant Resident District Commissioners.

At that function, Nsubuga Bewayo, who served in Rukungiri for four years and three months, thanked his security team for their support during his time in office and encouraged the incoming Resident District Commissioner to maintain good working relationships with staff to ensure continued development in the district and avoid politics of identity.

He reminded those present that RDCs can be transferred anywhere in the country and urged locals to cooperate with the new leadership to improve service delivery and he handed over the office key, stamp, case files, and an inventory list of all office items to Ahimbisibwe Ongom, who will now serve as the Acting Resident District Commissioner  until a substantive RDC is posted to the district
