The scene of the accident

Residents of Kakurijo cell in Kyeshero Sub-county in Kanungu District, were left in shock and grief yesterday following a fatal road accident involving a Sino truck.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck, which was reportedly transporting iron ore from Kinamiro site in Kyeshero Sub County to Butogota Town council, lost control while crossing a bridge over River Munyaga and plunged into a water body that forms the boundary between Kyeshero Sub-county and Butogota Town Council.

Witnesses say the truck heavily on the driver’s side, killed him instantly and the identity of the deceased had not yet been confirmed by authorities by the time of filing this report.

The truck’s turn boy, whose name was also not immediately established, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was rushed to Victorious Health Center, a nearby private healthy facility, where he was admitted in critical condition.

One of the eyewitnesses, Ashimu Mbabazi, said the accident happened suddenly and expressed concern over the delayed response by authorities.

Mbabazi noted that residents first attempted to help the victims before police from Butogota eventually arrived at the scene and called upon local leaders to urgently improve the condition of the road, saying it poses a danger not only to residents but also to tourists who frequently use the route.

By the time of publishing this story, the Police had not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident and more details are expected after the Police investigations are completed and the accident site in now secured by UPDF.
