NTUNGAMO- The minister for Education and sports Ms Janet Kataha Museveni urged Ugandans to embrace government programs intended to eradicate poverty among them overwhelming for socio-economic change not subsistence only.
Minister’s remarks were sounded during PDM monitoring baraza meeting with people of Kikoni model parish in Ruhaama county, Ntungamo district on Tuesday 12th November 2024 (yesterday) at Mutanoga playground.
Mis Kataha Museveni said that some PDM beneficiaries have started investing the money to non-profitable ventures yet the PDM money is intended for value addition in families to fight poverty to each household in Uganda.
She therefore underscored the importance of government programs such as; Parish Development Model, Emyooga, Entandikwa among others, stressing that all those if are to be utilized accordingly a big percentage in Uganda will not be poor.
She also heated on local leaders and members of Parliament for not aiding in the implementation of PDM monies in their area of jurisdictions.
According to the PDM coordinator through Chief Administrative Officer Mr Mathias Ndifuna 26.779bn was received by Ntungamo district during disbursement of PDM monies, over 26bn have been loaned out to 26,274 beneficiaries and over 510 mlillion is on district account awaiting the beneficiaries.
The Ruhaama area MP Henry Zinkurataire and the Ntungamo LC V boss Samuel Muchunguzi vowed to heed on the PDM monies to serve its intended purpose to the people of Ntungamo. Muchunguzi also noted that despite the extortion featured in by Parish Development Committees’ leaders, success in PDM monies is registered in some villages.
The area chairperson of Muyumbu cell Mr Samuel Kyabikagire highlighted some of the challenges including, electricity, clean water, poor roads and school infrastructures are hindering the area development.
The PDM initiative was launched on 26 February 2022 by the President of Uganda Yoweri Museveni. It was a strategy to improve service delivery and alleviate poverty at the grassroots level.
