KAMPALA- The Anti-corruption court in Kampala has ordered a State Attorney with the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs- Tusubira Sam to pay ten million shillings cash before his release from Luzira prison on bail.
Last week, Tusubira was arrested by the State House Anti-corruption Unit over a 100 million shilling bribe he solicited from a litigant in a land matter. Tusubira was then arraigned before the Anti-corruption court and charged with 16 counts of Corruption and remanded to Luzira prison.
It stated that while representing the government in court, Tusubira solicited for the said bribe from a one Yawe Ronald who had sued the Ministry of Lands and the Attorney General for irregular cancellation of his title. The 33year old Government Lawyer has appeared before Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe and denied the charges.
Court heard that on 22nd/December/2023 in Kampala City, in performance of his duties, Tusubira Sam asked for 100mshs and received 43,660,000shs, as facilitation to procure consent from the Attorney General over the said land matter Yawe had filed before Luwero High Court.
Prosecution further accused Tusubira of having been receiving several bribes to handle and manage Yawe Ronald’s Land Case from 21st/October/2023 to 23rd/ January/2024 in Kampala. Tusubira Sam was arrested following a complaint Yawe Ronald filed with the Attorney General’s Chambers expressing the unbecoming behaviour of the accused State Attorney not picking his calls after taking his monies; instead of assisting him get compensated.
He then ordered to return to court today for his bail application which has been granted by magistrate Asiimwe.
