RUBIRIZI– Residents in Rubirizi district have burnt a suspected banana thief to nearly death in Magambo Sub – county.
The victim is Byaruhanga Edward 25, who was only rescued by Police after his life chances had reduced since community members of Nyangorogoro B had asked God to forgive him all his sins and receive him in heaven.
The angry residents used Petrol to burn him as they claim to be tired of having sleepless nights since their plantations and animals are stolen on a daily basis. Residents who talked to our reporter on condition of anonymity narrated that they will continue hunting for the thieves and once they are caught, only God will judge.
By press time, the victim was in critical condition on admission at Rugazi Health Center IV receiving serious medical attention.
Police officers were already on ground investigating to ascertain the details about the incident but warned residents against mob justice since its against the law.
Relatedly, a suspected thief was this week beaten to death by an abgry mob in Bushenyi – Ishaka Municipality.
The deceased is Musasizi Jamil 45, from Katerera in Rubirizi district who was beaten by angry residents in the night of 7th January 2024 at around 5:30am in Rushinya cell, central ward, Bushenyi – Ishaka Municipality.
Its alleged that three men broke into Twinamatsiko Dominic’s bar in Rushinya, but the owner made an alarm which alerted the neighbours and they responded. They thereafter arrested one of the thieves (deceased now) though Police intervened quickly and rescued him but he later died at Bushenyi Health Centre IV.
A case file of murder by mob action has now been opened at Bushenyi Police station.
The greater Bushenyi police spokesman SSP Martial Tumusiime confirmed this incident to our reporter stressing that the deceased was found with house breaking implements and his body had multiple marks of violence.
