Rev Fr Deus Tweyongyere giving communion to students

Parents and students have been urged not to harden their hearts but to embrace God’s forgiveness and value education as the key to a successful future.

This call was October 5th made by the Rector of St Charles Lwanga Seminary Nyakibale, Rev Fr Deus Tweyongyereyo while presiding over a Holy Mass at St.Teresa Girls College Calcutta-Kihiihi in Kanungu District.

The school was commemorating the Patron Saints Day, celebrating Last Years Academic Performance and fundraising for a new computer laboratory under the theme empowering the future through digital innovation and technology.

The day began with a colorful brass band parade through the streets of Kihiihi Town, followed by Holy Mass and presentations from the schools old girls who turned up in large numbers to support their alma matter.

In His Sermon, Fr Tweyongereyo urged parents to remain committed to educating their children despite economic challenges noting that the rewards of education last for generations and also encouraged students to be obedient, disciplined and God fearing as they pursue their studies.

The Headmistress Sister Petronilla Kyomugisha thanked the guests,clergy and education leaders who attended the event and advised students to concentrate on their studies and avoid wasting time on unnecessary habits, stressing that hardwork and discipline are the keys to success.

The Chief Guest, the aspiring Woman Member of Parliament Kanungu District Betty Kataba Mutabazi commended the school for it’s steady academic progress and applauded the old girls for giving back their former school and pledged to support talent development among learners across the district through sports, music, dance and drama and other co curricular activities if elected to Parliament.

The event was graced by several education leaders who included headteachers from both secondary and primary schools, members of clergy, civil servants and members of local community.

Meanwhile candidates have been urged to maintain discipline in preparation for their final examinations with a week to the Uganda Certificate of Education examination.

The call was made today by Rev Fr Augustine Tumushime, the Rector of St Pauls Minor Seminary Rushoroza while preaching at St Mary’s College Rushoroza , Kabale during a Mass held in celebration of the school’s Patron Saints which took place at the school premises in the Southern Division of Kabale Municipality.

Rev Fr Tumushime  emphasised the importance of discipline during this critical time, stating that good behavior and focus are key to success in academics and life and while reflecting on the Word of God, he encouraged school leaders and students alike to believe and trust in the Lord, assuring them that with faith, they can overcome all earthly challenges.

Addressing the learners, the Head teacher, St Mary’s College Rushoroza, Christopher Monday, called in the candidates to set the focus and goals in what they want to achieve in the forthcoming exams and further  urged them to set clear goals and stay focused as they approach the forthcoming exams.

While speaking at the same event, the Uganda National Teachers Union General Secretary Filbert Baguma raised concerns about the status of teachers stating that neither students nor teachers will  proceed with  forthcoming Primary Leaving examinations until the government fulfills its promise to enhance teachers’ salaries.

He noted that teachers have endured mistreatment and neglect for too long, maintaining peace despite the government’s failure to support them citing the ongoing economic crisis and stressed the need to prioritize teachers’ welfare, given their crucial role in shaping the nation’s future.
