ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi regional Police spokesman

NEWS- Two rifles were on Monday Morning, November 20th 2023 recovered after they were stolen from security guards at Pride MicroFinance offices in Kabale District. 

According to the Kigezi Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, it is alleged that at about 1:30am, five unknown thugs broke into Pride Microfinance Bank and stole two SR-guns with 14 rounds of ammunition, the property of Saracen.

It’s also alleged that the assailants also attempted to break the safe of the bank but never succeeded and were intercepted before they took off. 

Maate said that a report of aggravated robbery was registered by the victim guards Bategana Estafano 38, and the scene was visited by Homicide team led by D/IP Magara Richard DEP CID officer and team.

Statements from relevant witnesses were obtained and the two guns were recovered with 9 rounds of ammunition within the bank building.

The guard who reported was held by officers to assist in investigations and an aggravated Robbery case registered at Kabale Central Police Station under the file number CRB 894/2023 as the inquiries are still at hand.

In another development, the territorial Police of Kanungu district are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a 25 year old Karungi Siraji a resident of Nyakibuga village/ parish in Kihanda Sub County in Kanungu district.

Maate told the press that Karungi was found helpless on 19th November 2023 at around 7am at Nyakatoma village, Nyakatoma parish in Kihanda Sub County, was rushed to kanungu health centre 1v where he died at around 11:35hrs.

It’s alleged that on 19th November 2023 at about 1am, the deceased together with others were last seen in the bar of Twinamatsiko Francis, who left the bar and went away until in the morning at about 7am when he was found lying along the junction of Kikona trading centre while in a pool of blood with a heavy stone containing suspected blood on crime scene. 

He was rushed to Kanungu health center IV where he died at about 11:35am and from there, the body was transported to his home where a postmortem was done.

The crime scene was visited and documented, postmortem done and body handed over to the relatives for descent burial.

Maate confided to the press that blood samples and other relevant exhibits were collected from the crime scene to help in investigations, two suspects already arrested and others still at large to help in investigations.
