In a shocking incident that has left the local community reeling, independent LC5 chairperson aspirant Angello Twinomuhangi was found in critical condition after being tied up and dumped near the Mineera Bridge, which serves as a boundary between Kebisoni and Nyarushanje Sub-Counties.
The attack reportedly occurred late last night, between 9:00 PM and 10:30 PM. According to a resident who requested anonymity, Twinomuhangi was forcibly pulled from his vehicle by unidentified assailants. Sources indicate that he was bound with a USB cable, with his hands tied behind his back and his mouth secured, before being abandoned alongside the bridge.
Following the incident, local residents rushed to his aid and transported him to Karoli Lwanga Hospitalnin Nyakibale, Rukungiri District. Medical personnel have confirmed that he is receiving urgent treatment, but his current condition remains critical. As of now, Twinomuhangi has been unable to speak, leading to widespread concern about the potential motives behind such a violent act.
The community is grappling with fear and uncertainty, as this incident follows a troubling trend of political violence in the region. Many local leaders and residents have called for increased security and support to protect candidates and voters in the lead-up to the upcoming elections. “This is a wake-up call for all of us; we cannot continue to live in fear,” said one concerned community member.
While the motive for the attack is still unclear, speculation is rife. Some suggest it could be politically motivated, given Twinomuhangi’s candidacy for the LC5 chairperson position. Others fear it may be part of a broader pattern of intimidation aimed at silencing opposition voices.
Radio Rukungiri will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as new information becomes available. As the police have yet to issue an official statement, the community waits anxiously for answers and for justice to prevail.
