NEWS- The territorial Police in Rubanda district have three suspects in custody for questioning in relation to the death of a 30 year old Joseph Ampumuza a resident of Nyakahita cell, Kakyenaga Parish Nyamweru Sub County in Rubanda district, who is alleged to have been lynched by mob.
The suspects according to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman are Mbabazi Moses 47 year old peasant and Chairperson Kakyenaga cell, Turyamureeba Senturino 36 year old peasant chairperson of Mushunga cell and Turyamureeba Alex 47 year old Chairperson of Nyakahita cell, all of Kakyenaga Parish Nyamweru Sub County in Rubanda district.
Maate told the media that on Tuesday 16th January 2024 at around 2am at Nyamweru police station, Rubanda district, AIP Bakenda David Wilfred, the officer in charge received two chairpersons of Kakyenaga cell and one of Mushunga cell with the victim who was seriously injured and bleeding.
When they were asked what had happened to the said person, they said that he was beaten by Mob on allegations of stealing.
Maate adds that the officer In-charge ordered them to first take the victim to Nyamweru Health centre III where he was pronounced dead at around 5:40AM.
The crime scene was visited and documented by D/SP Arinaitwe Frank, the district CID officer and team, relevant witness statements recorded, postmortem done and the body handed over to relatives for burial.
