The Police in Rubanda District have registered an a fatal accident that took place at Kamuserwa cell in Nyarurambi Ward in Rubanda Town Council along Kabale – Kisoro road.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate has confirmed the accident that involved vehicle registration number UBN 989U which was loaded with Irish potatoes which left Orikyiriza Patience a resident of Kahama Village in Ibumba Parish in Rwamucucu Sub-county in Rukiga District dead.
Maate identified the injured as 63 year old Ms Musimenta Edrinah a resident of Rwanjure Village in Burime Parish in Rwamucucu also in Rukiga District, 56 year old Kyarisima Provia, a resident of Rubare Town Council in Ntungamo District, 40 year old Amutuhire Socvia a resident of Kyabukojo in Mutojo Parish in Rubare in Ntungamo District.
Others include 28 year old Ntwirenabo Álex, a resident of Ntungamo Municipality in Ntungamo district, Tugume Bruce a resident odf Kandago in Muhanga Town Council in Rukiga District and 33 year old Mutesi Diana, a resident of Rubare Town Council in Ntungamo District.
Maate explained that it’s alleged that, the fateful truck was coming from Kisoro side heading to Kabale while loaded with Irish potatoes with the victims on board failed to negotiate a sharp corner around Kamuserwa cell in Rubanda District and over turned where one of them died on spot.
Maate said that the scene was visited and documented by a team of traffic officers headed by Mwine and the victims were rushed to Muko Health Center for First Aid and the body was conveyed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examination while the vehicle was towed to Rubanda Central Police Station and pending inspection by Inspector of Vehicles.
Im a related development, Three people were killed and several others injured in a tragic road accident that occurred in the early hours of Monday, on the Mbarara-Kabale Road.
The crash, which happened at around 2:20 a.m. at Bukinda in Rukiga District, involved a Isuzu bus, registration number RAG597K, belonging to Trinity Bus Company in Rwanda.
According to Michael Kananura, Traffic Police Spokesperson, the bus was traveling from Rwanda to Kampala when the driver lost control, causing it to veer off the road and fall into a trench.
The victims, including the conductor, turnman, and a passenger, died at the scene, while several others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for medical attention.
Kananura says the bodies of the deceased have been taken to the same hospital’s mortuary, and police investigation into the crash is ongoing.
