President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today welcomed the Heads of State and Delegations who are in Uganda to attend the 12th High-Level Meeting of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security, and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Region.
Tne Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace is the main oversight body under the Peace and Security Commission Framework and it meets once a year at Head of State and Government level to review progress on the implementation of the national and regional commitments of the signatory countries.
The Regional Oversight Mechanism is the main oversight body under the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
During the meeting President and his visitors held extensive discussions on the oversight mechanism for achieving peace in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
President Museveni extended appreciation to Burundi President Evarastie Ndayishimye for his contributions over the past two years and for designating Uganda to be in charge of this Mechanism this year.
President Museveni noted that the issues in the Democratic Republic of Congo are solvable, and they will continuously work to ensure regional peace and stability.
President Museveni noted that for many years, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has faced significant challenges that include insufficient engagement with the people and over-reliance on external support.
He said that these same problems have existed in Uganda, however, with a clear philosophy, strong ideology and a strategic approach, the region will achieve the peace we all desire.
