NEWS– The territorial police in Kanungu district have registered a fatal road accident that has so far claimed five lives of people.
According to ASP Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesman, the accident happened on Saturday 22nd June 2024 at about 17:30 hours at Nyakashure, along Rukungiri -Kihihi highway in Kanungu district.
The accident involved two motorvehicles Registration number RAD 940J/RL1455 and UAW 904R Isuzu elf.
ASP Maate named the four victims who died on spot as Byamukama Fred the driver, Akandwanaho Reagan, Kyarisima Thereza and Tumuramye Genariyo all of Kinanira cell, Burora parish Nyarushanje Sub county in Rukungiri district. A yet to be identified male adult died from the hospital where they had been rushed.
It’s alleged that M/v Reg no. RAD 940J/RL 1455 Trailer was moving from the direction of Rukungiri heading to Kihihi side and when it reached Nyakashure, it’s driver left his lane and knocked an on coming Isuzu ELF from Kihihi side on its lane, killing four of its occupants on spot and injuring four others critically.
The police were informed according to Maate, the scene was visited and victims rushed to Kihihi health center four where the fifth victim died from.
The bodies of the other four deceased persons were also taken to the same Kihihi Health center four mortuary for postmortem examination.
The involved motor vehicles will be towed to Nyamirima police station pending iov inspection as inquiries to establish the likely cause of accident are underway.
