MBARARA- The UPDF 2nd Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi  passed out 79 Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) who have been undergoing Ideological Orientation training for the last seven weeks at the Division Headquarters in Mbarara City.  

The course participants were identified from units under Second Infantry Division and comprised of 70 Male and 9 Females Non Commissioned Officers.

While officiating at the pass out ceremony, the UPDF 2nd Infantry Division Commander, Maj Gen Muhanguzi emphasized the role of Ideology in the military and urged Unit Commanders to continue identifying trainable Soldiers who can transfer and share the acquired knowledge to fellow soldiers during war and peace time.  

 “Ideological Orientation is a powerful tool in shaping us, it helps to promote individual Consciousness, Unit consciousness and gives us clear public outlook. Infact, Ideological Consciousness helps to keep the force focussed to our constitutional mandate, it helps to keep our mother land safe from any threats and bridges the gap between us and the civilian community” Maj Gen Muhanguzi said.

He also expressed satisfaction with the UPDF leadership for supporting Ideological courses in all divisions as they act as the foundation of our current discipline in Units, during war and peace time.

Maj Gen Muhanguzi advised course participants, Officers and militants of 2nd Infantry Division to keep their bodies safe from diseases such as HIV and others and also remain healthy in order to get the necessary training and be able to move through ranks very well.  

He finally congratulated the Non Commissioned Officers for resilience and endurance exhibited during the intense 7 weeks Ideological course  and urged them to remain a good image of UPDF in respective Units and before communities we operate in.

While speaking at the same event, the Deputy Division Commander Col James Kasule Congratulated Maj Gen Paul Muhanguzi upon his confirmation by the UPDF leadership as a Division Commander and a well deserved promotion to the rank of Major General and attributed the achievement to hard work, dedication and commitment exhibited for a period of time he has served in the UPDF.

According to the UPDF 2nd Infantry Division Public Information Officer, Major Kiconco Tabaro, the training is carried out twice a year and is designed to provide Non Commissioned Officers with scientific tools of analysis which helps them to have expanded scope of understanding current circumstances as they emerge and therefore develop a right approach to decision making at their level in respective units.

The course also exposed the soldiers to academicians, military facilitators from Joint Staff Political Commissariat and had a guided tour in a number of factories and Industries in Western Uganda.

The colorful ceremony was attended by the UPDF 2nd Division Training and Officer, Col Sam Armstrong Nduga, 2nd Division Administrative Officer, Lt Col David Bamutaze, 2nd Division Political Commissar, Lt Remmy Mutabazi, Commanding officers of specialized Units and Heads of Department at 2nd Division Headquarters Mbarara.
