RUKUNGIRI- With just months to the National Resistance Movement Party Primary elections for those intending to contest for different Political seats, messages of hate, malice and sectarianism seem taking over the process with most candidates smearing their political rivals with mud to make electorates hate them.
However, every electoral season, the candidates and public have always been warned against the vice. However, it’s already the situation on ground, with Rubabo County in Rukungiri District not spared.
The verbal and social media rumor is waged against the seemingly candidate likely to scoop the National Resistance Movement NRM flag for the County Parliamentary representative Ho. Lawrence Mujuni Mptsi Pac Singa.
The allegations levied against him are that he won’t be nominated for the seat he is currently eyeing. The disseminators and propagators of this falsehood allege that Mujuni Mpitsi was recently convicted and barred from occupying any public officer for 10 years.
However, in addressing the issue, Mpitsi in an exclusive interaction with www.informer.co.ug reporter, Mpitsi took the opportunity to address swirling rumors regarding his potential candidacy for the upcoming Parliamentary election.
Mujuni Mpitsi firmly stated that, “I want to clarify that am on course and I will be nominated for the Rubabo County Member of Parliament seat in the NRM party Primary elections this year. These rumors are unfounded and misleading.”
Mpitsi emphasized his commitment to serving his constituents and focusing on pressing issues such as healthcare, education and infrastructural development among other roles of the Legislator.
His comments come in response to a flurry of social media posts and news articles, with alleged Political rivals propagating falsehoods that he won’t be nominated citing issues that don’t matter.
After confirming that he would appear on the NRM ballot paper, many supporters expressed gratitude and a ray of hope stressing that he’s the only candidate that looks to lobby for them all they have yawned for decades.
Mpitsi highlighted the importance of transparency in politics, urging the media and the public to rely on verified information.
“It’s crucial that we base our discussions on facts, not speculation,” he added.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Mujuni Mpitsi still stands out as electorates’ darling and his party looks at fronting a candidate who will as well floor other candidates in next year’s general elections.
His words have reaffirmed his dedication to his current role rather than pursuing higher office at this time.
This is not the first time the opponents propagating numerous rumours to tarnish his name. in February 2025, they also circulated a photo where they alleged that he had joined the National Unity Platform under the stewardship of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine.
However, the came out and cleared the air, stating that he’s an NRM member and will participate in the election to choose the flag bearer for Rubabo County legislator in elections anticipated to be held in either June or July.
