site where the French national was killed

A staff member of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund of French nationality has been killed in a drone attack in the city of Goma, in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

According to the M23 rebels group spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka the deceased was identified as Carine Buisset who was killed in what he described as a terrorist drone attack carried out by forces of the Congolese government, targeting facilities linked to the United Nations and the European Union.

Kanyuka added that, according to a provisional assessment, two other deaths had been confirmed in the incident, although he did not reveal the identities of the other victims.

Meanwhile, Bertrand Bisimwa, President of the M23 and Deputy Coordinator of the M23 coalition, alleged that the drones used by the Kinshasa government were supplied by China, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, which has repeatedly called for an end to violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo and respect for ceasefire agreements.
