KAGADI- The Bishop of Hoima catholic diocese Rt. Rev Vincent Kirabo on Wednesday commissioned 30 catechists who completed their 2 years course at St. Joseph Barikudembe catechist training centre Mugalike in Kagadi district.
The commissioned catechists are from parishes within Hoima and Fortportal dioceses.
These are Alinaitwe Lawrencio Bwikara, Katusabe Julian Mpeefu, Kasigazi Francis Kahunde, Kyomukama Stella Mpeefu, Namuri Rose Kagadi, Nuwamanya Hilary Bwikara, Kabajurizi Rusia and Tumusiime Robert from Mugalike Parish among others.
Bishop Kirabo urged the commissioned catechists to serve the community diligently and transform the Christians both spiritually and economically.
He urged them to sensitize Christians on financial discipline and condemned luxury expenditures and gambling. Bishop Kirabo called for more Christians to train as catechists, also thanking parishes for supporting the graduates.
Rev. Fr. John Paul Businge the Director St. Joseph Balikudembe Catechist Training Centre explained that during the 2 years of training, the graduates will have acquired knowledge ranging from spiritual and economic aspects.
He said the training also emphasizes embracing the government programs such as Parish Development Modal Program to help the newly graduated catechists to enhance their household incomes.
The catechists expressed their gratitude for completing the theology course and promised to serve well in transforming the spiritual and economic status of the Christians.
In other news, the Prime Minister of Uganda Rt. Hon. Nabbanja Robinah has flagged off 53 out of 116 Ambulance vehicles that were procured by the government of Uganda and development partners for deployment to constituencies and hospitals in the districts.
The event which took place at the National Records and Achieves Center in Kampala was attended by the 2nd deputy Prime minister Rt. Hon. Gen. Moses Ali, Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng, several ministers and Members of Parliament.
The Premier explained that the 53 ambulance vehicles can now be dispatched to the beneficiary constituencies and districts asserting that the others will be delivered later.
She said that the procurement of these ambulances is a step in the right direction towards fulfilling the 2021-26 NRM manifesto. Nabanja added that all the 16 regional referral hospitals and 192 constituencies out of 353 have ambulances representing 100% and 54% respectively.
The prime minister stated that the Government is mobilizing resources to achieve 100% coverage across constituencies and districts.
Rt. Hon. Nabanja implored the Chief Administrative Officers, DHOs, Lc5 chairpersons and RDCs to ensure that the ambulances are put to good use and are not diverted to private businesses.
Meanwhile the Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Acheng said they have first considered areas that were severely hit by natural calamities, like Bududa, Kasese, and Bulambuli, regions with many veterans who have severe illnesses like Rwenzori and Luwero triangle and refugee host districts of West Nile, Acholi and Ankole were given first priority.
She urged the authorities to take care of the vehicles and ensure they last long.
