NEWS- The bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi, Gaddie Akanjuna, has urged Christians to show love to HIV/AIDS patients by taking good care of them so that they can live for an extended period.
Bishop Akanjuna made this call on Friday December 1st 2023 during Confirmation service at Emmanuel Mayengo Church of Uganda Parish under Kamuganguzi Archdeaconry in Katuna Town Council, Ndorwa West of Kabale district.
Bishop Akanjuna reminded the congregation that the virus is still remembered because it is still in existence and is increasingly spreading among the population. He told Christians that those who have succumbed to this virus are our relatives, adding that caring for them will make them feel comfortable and not stigmatized.
Bishop Akanjuna also challenged HIV/AIDS patients to efficiently take their drugs as prescribed by medical workers, emphasizing that proper adherence to medication can enable one to live longer, even for 30 years or more with the virus.
In a related development, Bishop Akanjuna asked believers to always remember that they are temples of God, cautioning them to treat their fellow beings well, as our deeds speak louder than our words. He also urged parents to set good examples for their children. During the same service, 43 individuals were confirmed into the Anglican faith.
Relatedly, 50 lay leaders are to be commissioned, 2 to be ordained and other 2 as deacons by the Bishop of the Diocese of Muhabura.
This has been revealed by the diocesan secretary Rev. Ruzaza Steven in an exclusive interaction with our reporter where he stressed that on 3rd Dec, 2023, Rt Rev. Godfrey Mbitse will be commissioning 50 lay leaders who have been on training at Bible institute of Uganda pointing out that 2 will be ordained as reverends to work in parishes and 2 others to work in offices.
Ruzaza thanked God for enabling them to work closely in doing the God’s work stressing that the lay readers have been on training for 2 years and one year for the reverends.
More to the above, the Bishop of the diocese of Kigezi, Rt. Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna, on Thursday November 30th 2023 warned young adults, mostly girls, to desist from the habit of using family planning methods that will ruin their lives.
The Bishop made this call during the confirmation service held at Bukora Church of Uganda Parish, Kikungiri Archdeaconry, in Kitumba Sub-County of Kabale district, where 71 individuals were confirmed into the Anglican faith.
Bishop Akanjuna implored the youths to have hope in Christ despite the challenges and frustrations surrounding their lives caused by internal and external forces. He noted that it is through faith and hope in Him that we remain determined and focused on the future.
He further stressed the need for the youths to abstain from sex, which he said has continued to promote the use of emergency pills among the youths that is promoting infertility in their future.
Bishop Akanjuna appealed to Christians to be obedient to the voice of the Church in a bid to grow and be nurtured in the faith received from Christ.
