The Police in Matugga Policing Area have successfully recovered a three-year-old girl who had allegedly been kidnapped, and two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Ms Rachel Kawala, It is alleged that the child left her home on 8th March to play with friends in the neighbourhood but did not return. Her mother searched for her in vain.
Ms Kawala explained that later in the evening, the victim’s grandmother received a WhatsApp message containing a photograph of the child, with the sender demanding Ugx 40 million as ransom for her release.
It was at this point that a case of a missing child was immediately opened at Matugga Police Station, and search efforts commenced without delay.
Ms Kawala said that Police Detectives later arrested two suspects identified aa Selwanja Godfrey and Ntege Shakib, in connection with the kidnapping and the victim was successfully recovered from Kayilira Village in Buwambo Ward in Gombe Division of Wakiso District, at the home of one of the suspects Ntege Shakib and the child was immediately rushed by the Police task team for medical examination and attention.
The Police have since caution parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and remain vigilant in order to prevent such incidents of abuse and ensure their safety.
