RUKUNGIRI- More than 100 and 120 herds of cattle and goats respectively have been stolen since the beginning of this year in the sub- counties of Buyanja and Nyakagyeme in Rukungiri district.
40 cows were stolen from Nyakagyeme, 67 stolen from Buyanja sub- county while 65 goats from Nyakagyeme and over 40 goats from Buyanja according to the residents and leaders from the two sub- counties.
Amos Byaruhanga, a resident of Nyakagyeme sub- County one of the victims told our reporter that on the night 12th Feb 2020, thugs stole his 20 cows from the kraal and he has never had any information tracing them. Jane Nyinaabe from Buyanja also says that her 10 goats were stolen on the night of 20th January.
Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the lc3 chairperson Buyanja sub- County told our reporter that as the sub- County they have tried harder to eliminate this vice out of the sub- County but failed. He attributed the vice to residents whom know the criminals but fail to expose them.
When contacted for a comment on the trend of theft in the two sub counties, Sp Moses Nanoka, the Rukungiri district police commander called for a combined effort between residents and police so as to curb down the trend.
