RUKUNGIRI- The Rukungiri district council has passed a resolution to avail an additional 11 billion shillings towards the completion of Kahengye water project. The resolution was passed during the council sitting chaired by Milly Jovia Mbabazi, the district deputy speaker.
The motion was tabled by the district chairperson Charles Andrewson Katebire who told the council that once this project is completed, problems of water shortage will be dealt with in the district.
Hon. Mackline sabiti, woman district councilor for Buyanja and Kebisoni sub- counties seconded the motion saying that it has always been the public’s concern on the progress of this water project.
Mackline Sabiti added that completion of this project will bring smiles on the faces of Rukungiri residents. The 44 billion shillings World Bank and government funded water project kicked off in July 2016 and was contracted by an Indian firm Technofab Engineering services and was supposed to be completed in 2017.
However the firm failed to complete the works in the stipulated time. Their contract was terminated and now awarded to Vambeco Engineering construction company Limited and they are expected to hand over a completed project in May 2020.
