President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has today afernoon received former Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn, who is the current Chairman of the Board of Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa and his team.
President Museveni noted that these groups support Uganda through relevant science, packaging and financing, as well as advocacy.
President Museveni and Hailemariam Desalegn discussion focused on key agricultural issues such as irrigation, improved seeds, fertiliser use and strengthening local seed systems to increase food security and household incomes.
On the issue of livestock, President Museveni informed the delegation that in the past cattle moved long distances in search of water and pasture, which made disease control difficult and requested support for research on animal feeds to address the challenges farmers are facing today as he welcome the team partnership.
Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is an Africa-led partnership working in Africa to help millions of small-scale farmers and their families lift themselves out of poverty and hunger.
Its programmes develop practical solutions to significantly boost farm productivity and incomes for the poor while safeguarding the environment. The head office is in Nairobi, Kenya.
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa was founded in 2006 by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Gates Foundation to initiate agricultural transformation in Africa.
Although critics have argued that AGRA’s approach insufficiently addresses the needs of African smallholder farmers, there has been little analysis of the broader politics and networks that shape AGRA, a gap this paper aims to fill.
Using a network analysis and key informant interviews, we identify the actors that constitute AGRA’s network, and describe related power constellations.
