KAMPALA- The Nakawa Chief Magistrates Court has extended criminal summons against Wilson Omoding, Chairperson of Exodus Cooperatives and Credit Society Limited, and Secretary Daniel Ogwok.

They are required to answer charges related to operating a money lending business without a license.

The summons, initially issued in November 2024, were extended until February 26, 2025, after complainant Steven Kalali followed up on the case.

Omoding and Ogwok were absent, leading to an adjournment. Kalali was informed that the matter had been adjourned the previous week due to the magistrate’s absence.

However, Kalali stated that a consent agreement had been signed with the lawyers representing Omoding and Ogwok to adjourn the case.

The summons require Omoding and Ogwok to answer three charges brought by Kalali, who alleges that Exodus SACCO has over 30,000 police officer members who were involuntarily recruited and have their salaries deducted without consent. Kalali claims that Exodus SACCO operates financial services, including loans, without a license, violating the Tier 4 Microfinance and Money Lenders Act Cap 61.

Kalali argues that the deductions without consent violate the law and constitute theft under the Penal Code Act. He seeks to hold the Exodus SACCO management criminally liable.

The case has been adjourned until February 26, 2025.
